About

Where the hell am I, and where are my pants?

Hi. We make videos on the internet with our video gaming consoles and personal computers. We are also known to do Sean Connery impressions on occasion. You can find more cool information about us in the crew section.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I join the Spriggs crew? Can I be a voice?

We appreciate everyone's interest in joining us, but we can't accomodate requests from viewers. There are several reasons for this. Spriggs is very much a social experience for those involved, and we can't have a tangible relationship with people outside of our immediate geography. Secondly, we do everything in Local and System Link, to allow weapon lowering, so we can't accomodate people who simply want to control characters over Live. If we ever need something, we'll post it on our site, in our forums, on our YouTube channel, or in a video. Otherwise, we'll approach who we're interested in directly.

What are your Gamertags? Can I play with you? Will you be my friend?

Despite what you may think, very few of us play Halo to any great extent. More importantly, there have been a few instances in the past where our tags being known by viewers has hurt the production of episodes. For that reason, our gamertags are semi-private. It's not a closely guarded secret or anything, but we're not in the buisness of passing out our tags to our viewership. If you ask, we probably won't tell you. It's not because we don't want to play with you or anything, we just want to avoid complications with production as much as possible.

How do you make Spriggs?

Each episode begins as a script in Microsoft Word, nothing more than a sequence of lines with as much or as little description as necessary. With the completed script, we schedule recording time for all voices needed. Due to schedules, and the fact that we have just two Tascam microphones, we typically tend to record everyone individually, although recording two at a time is known to happen. The vocals are recorded into a PC with the help of a Line 6 TonePort UX2, with GearBox software. The lines are then leveled using REAPER. Ideally, we have all the dialogue for a scene assembled when we go into Halo 3. Depending on what's going on in a scene, we'll modify the map as necessary in Forge. We'll go through the scene, with the audio as a basis for syncronizing movements, actions, and headbobbing. We then save and title the scene in our profile's Library. Once the scenes are puppeted, we'll go into Theater mode and shoot video, which involves recording from the XBOX onto DVD via a Sony DVD Recorder (Model #RDR-VX515). We then rip the DVD(s) with DVD Decrypter, and then process the VOB files into editable footage with Gordian Knot. With all of our source audio and video, we begin working in Adobe Premiere. We'll also add in 2D animations created in Adobe After Effects and 3D animations created in 3D Studio Max. 2D graphics work is created in Adobe Photoshop. Our music is created in Cakewalk Music Creator 4 and Live Instruments. On occassion, we'll mix sound and music in Adobe Audition. Once we have all of the pieces in place, and we feel comfortable with the edit, we'll save and process the video again in Gordian Knot for distribution online.

Our website was designed and built using Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Wordpad, and Notepad. Sections of the site are powered by WordPress, phpBB, jQuery, and Lightbox.

I have this great idea, wouldn't it be funny if...

No. Please. Don't send us ideas. We appreciate it, but don't. We will not read any message that comes off as a creative idea or suggestion. We don't want to be accused of plaigarism, no matter how obvious the idea is. So please, don't send us ideas, especially if you want a response.

Where are you located?

In and around Baltimore, Maryland, USA

How do you put your gun down?

While in Custom Games, Forge, or Campaign (Local or System Link), press and hold Left Bumper, Right Bumper, A, Down on the Directional Pad, and in on the Left Thumbstick. All buttons must be pressed and held down for a second or two simultaneously, and it doesn't work on XBOX LIVE.

How do you get that cool armor Triple M wears?

Collect all thirteen skulls in Campaign to unlock the Hayabusa armor.

Why didn't you just use the monitor in Episode 12?

That was the original plan, but the issue is that the monitor is only available in Forge, and Forge doesn't allow teamless play. So we were left with several options, all involving varying levels of effect work. We felt we could achieve the best results by compositing in an original 3D model. And while we were at it, we decided to create a more original monitor rather than just copy the original.

Will Spriggs ever talk?

Yes. Spriggs will talk eventually, so stop asking or we'll kill off the character and rename the series "We killed off the main character because people kept asking annoying questions".

Why don't you put your videos on Machinima.com anymore?

The main reason that concerns you the viewer is that we decided we would rather be independent. We appreciate the exposure that Machinima provided us, however we had intended from the start to move off on our own when we felt the time was right.

How do you close the doors on Standoff?

You can't. You can only open them, and once they are open, they stay open, same as with the door on High Ground, and the gate on Last Resort. However, through the wonders of digital video editing, we were able to reverse the gameplay footage, making it look like the doors had closed.

When is Sodagod going to be in Spriggs?

Once upon a time, we were working on a joint non-Spriggs project. However, sometime into it, it dissolved, and then for quite separate reasons, Sodagod decided to bow out of the machinima community for an indefinite period of time. We'd like to work with him again at some point in the future, but we respect his desire to pursue other things, and we wish him the best.
